Welcome to The Mashup, a little blog started by an eccentric being who needed some place to talk about the things they enjoy most in life. Like the site's name states, The Mashup is a blog that centers around many different topics as opposed to simply focusing on one particular topic. Basically, whatever floats the bloggers' boat is what gets talked about. {Read more...}

Music News: Dumbfoundead Releases “Growing Young” Single

In the summer of this year, I had the joy of being able to attend a concert that I will probably forever deem one of the bests I’ve been to ever. At that concert, I was able to see one of my personal favourite MCs take the stage, drunkenly at that, and deliever one of the best performances I’ve seen since I went to the Miyavi concert back in 2010. Who was that MC? If you seriously asked yourself that question while staring dead at the picture above, you’re a lot stupider than anyone gives you credit for. But I’ll be nice and indulge in your idiocy. Obviously, that MC was none other Los Angeles native, Dumbfoundead.

Now, if you follow this sick MC on Twitter, you already know that he’s been dropping hints about his sophmore album, Take The Stares, set to release on October 16th, 2012. If you’re anything like me, you probably had a fit of excitement and were just ready to hear all the new DFD material. Fortunately enough, DFD is not an artist that has his fans waiting too long—I mean let’s be real here, this is the same dude that released not three, but five music videos for his previous albums not to mention his series The Hotbox, Rants, Wisdumb episodes, DFD episodes, and countless other videos…just to name a few things—released his new single “Growing Young” as of yesterday.

Fuck being sick, I’m pissed as shit that I wasn’t up to catch the actual “premiere” of the music video. Go past the jump to peep the music video and read more information about the single.

New Music: Alicia Keys – “Girl On Fire” (Inferno Version) (feat. Nicki Minaj)

So this is the first time I’ve ever used an image before a read more cut. I’m getting fancy on you bitches. Bam.

Anyway, in new music news, Alicia Keys released her single “Girl On Fire”’s Inferno version and guess who it features? If you guessed Nicki Minaj, you guessed right. Like I said previously, Nicki is everywhere as of late. This song is the title track of her upcoming fifth album set to release on November 27th.

Before I talk my shit about this song, lemme talk about this cover. While, I find Alicia gorgeous normally, this cover does nothing for me. I love her eyebrows and the fact that they lack an arch, but slicking her hair back and taking the picture from the angle of her side profile makes her masculine facial structure pop out more and scream Butch Femme In Training. I wish I was just joking, but I’m being serious. The album cover looks amazing though.
